Not necessarily! While experience helps, we work with both beginners and professionals, providing tailored guidance to achieve the best results. We also have connections with various directors that can assist, so there’s no need to be concerned about a lack of experience in voiceover recording.
At Sonic Nursery, we use studio-grade microphones, professional preamps, and industry-standard software to ensure crystal-clear audio in all our voiceover recordings. Some of our more frequented voiceover (or VO) microphones include the Electro-Voice RE-20 dynamic microphone and the Audio Technica AT4060A condenser tube microphone. We typically pair the microphone with a studio-quality pop filter to eliminate as much sibilance as possible, as well as other undesirable sounds like plosives and fricative consonants.
Yes! We offer remote recording sessions using high-quality audio connections and software like Source-Connect so you can deliver professional voiceovers from anywhere. We also support recording via Zoom, Riverside and other video conferencing platforms. We are not limited to our Cape Town studio by any means!
Absolutely, we frequently have directors dial in via Zoom, Google Meet, Riverside or other video-conferencing software to partake in the session. Everyone can hear everything in real-time!
Practice your script, stay hydrated, and avoid caffeine or dairy before recording to keep your voice clear. We’ll handle the rest! If you’re preparing for a longer session for something such as an audiobook, consider bringing an appropriate snack! Sonic Nursery does provide teas, coffees and water if you need.
Absolutely! We provide post-production services, including advanced noise reduction, EQ, compression, mixing and mastering for a polished final product.
It depends on the project. Short scripts may take under an hour, while longer projects (like audiobooks) may require multiple sessions. You can always time yourself at home reading a script to determine what your speed is like, and this could better inform how long you might take. If you send through your script, we can also help determine how much studio time is needed.
